Cultural tourism, which goes hand in hand with tourism focused on “leisure and entertainment,” may not seem very strong to you. But when you learn that, according to the World Tourism Organization, 37% of international tourists travel for cultural purposes, you may change your mind. Then, when you hear that 65% of American travelers always make time for a cultural event and that 32% of these people extend their trip to participate in a cultural visit, you will probably realize how much tourism potential our museums and archaeological sites have.

The Turkish Museums Project, together with the GoTürkiye Project, is one of the largest tourism communication channels in our country. As the digital agency of the Turkish Museums Project, we developed the entire digital communication strategy of the project and created a portal with photos and videos of almost 400 museums and archaeological sites affiliated with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Türkiye.

In order not to be considered an ordinary project, we would like to share a small detail:

We have toured almost 400 museums and archaeological sites in our beautiful country, taken photos and videos, created English content from them and published them on social media, and built the world’s first web portal that includes all museums in one country. We are proud to be the first agency for this great project!

How We Started?

The Turkish Museums Project is a project that was planned in 2019 and launched in 2020 to further strengthen the communication of the GoTürkiye project, which has been successfully implemented since 2012 and focuses on Cultural Tourism. Siu Digital was selected as the first agency for this project.

From this perspective, we were expected to deliver the following results:

  • ZPreparation of the Digital Communication Strategy
  • ZCreation of the website
  • ZRecording of videos and photos by managing an operation across Türkiye, and then making the videos and photos ready for publication
  • ZDevelopment of the Museum Visitor Relations Software
  • ZDevelopment of content and operation of social media accounts

What We Did?

  • ZThe communication of the Turkish Museums Project, which is an international project, was planned and carried out entirely in English.
  • ZAs part of the project, Siu team members traveled about 20,000 kilometers in 6 months and took photos and videos in almost 400 museums and archaeological sites. All videos were edited, all photos were processed and all content was prepared for publication.
  • ZThe project's web portal was prepared to allow 400 museum and archaeological site staff to enter photos, videos, and any kind of data at the same time.
  • ZThe Museum Visitor Relations Management System software was developed to track the process of processing and resolving feedback about museums and archaeological sites in real time.
  • ZThe content prepared for the #MuseumFromHome campaign, developed during the pandemic, attracted the attention of many institutions, celebrities, and influencers, including the United Nations.

Turkish Museums’ social media accounts grew by over 100% on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter, both in terms of followers and engagement rates, with fully organic reach.

Result

  • ZTurkish Museums' social media accounts grew by over 100% on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter, both in terms of followers and engagement rates, with fully organic reach.
  • ZAccounts targeting international tourists have seen an increase in international followers of over 80%.
  • ZThe #MuseumFromHome campaign, created during the Covid- 19 pandemic with real-time content, was shared organically by influencers and celebrities even without advertising support, and attracted the attention of many organizations, including the United Nations.
  • ZIn addition to the Advice From Artifacts series, which achieved high reach during the Covid-19 pandemic, the film created for museums and archaeological sites that opened during the summer months when the pandemic receded attracted significant social media attention and was shared by influencers.
